Kiwanis helps kids around the world. The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Spokane looks out for the Spokane community and the Kiwanis international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty. Our Kiwanis club is generous with its time. We are creative with our ideas. We are passionate about making a difference. And we have fun along the way!
For more than a century, The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Spokane has created opportunities for children to be curious, safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things can happen.
The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Spokane was Chartered December 9, 1920, and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club if Vancouver British Columbia. The first activity and sponsorship of the club was The Washington Children’s Home Finding Society. Electric Heaters and blankets were first purchased, and money was raised to help purchase a new home for the children. During 1922 the Club first began a relationship with the local Camp Fire Council and raised money for the purchase of Camp Sweyolakan on Coeur d’ Alene Lake. This relationship continues today.
